Welcome to 5th grade! My Name is Neil Haner and 2017-2018 will be my 9th school year as a 5th grade teacher. I am excited for another school year, and I am passionate about learning and teaching!
I am was born and raised in California before moving to Las Vegas to attend the University of Nevada, Las Vegas where I earned a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. Following graduation, I worked for 6 years in Las Vegas where I taught 5th grade, was a part-time instructor for the Regional Professional Development Program in the area of Technology, Grade Level Chairperson, Science Site Leader, and advisor to the Beta Club honor society. Prior to my career in education, I worked in the Law Enforcement and Medical fields, and was a certified Emergency Medical Technician.
I love Science as much as I love computers, and believe science is something that students DO, not just something they learn. I also enjoy incorporating student choice assignments, such as Genius Projects, Blogging and Project Based Learning into my classroom. I truly know that "knowledge is power" and that every student can succeed! When I am not at work, I like all things Star Trek, Gardening and Hiking.
Ready to have a great year?! I am!
